5 Creative Ways to Celebrate Your Cast and Crew

We probably don’t need to tell you this, but we will anyway: Without your hardworking cast and crew, much of your theatre’s success wouldn’t exist. After all, you can have the most creative, exciting ideas in the world, but without the right team, your work wouldn’t see the light of day.

That said, it’s incredibly important to celebrate your team, their hard work, and their contributions – not just once, but often! After all, raising morale and ensuring your team feels valued will lead to better work, a more cohesive environment, and more fun, both on the stage and off. If you’re searching for ways to help your team feel appreciated, On The Stage presents several ways to celebrate your cast and crew.

1. Write Personalized Messages

If ‘words of affirmation’ is your love language, writing personalized messages to each of your cast and crew members is a great way to show your appreciation, but also a way to celebrate each person’s unique contributions to your production.

Whether you go all out with personalized stationery, printed photos, and scented envelopes a la Legally Blonde, or just snag some colorful notecards and handwrite your notes, the sentiment remains the same: You are ensuring cast and crew appreciation and holding space for the many accomplishments each person in your team tackled for your show. If you go this route, consider the following topics in your note:

  • Specific compliments about that person’s skills and personality
  • Personal memories shared with that cast or crew member
  • Relaying the desire to work with them in the future
  • The positive effect they had on the production and the people within it

An act of kindness that requires very little except time and thought, personalized messages are a great way to connect with each member of your team individually and ensure they know you couldn’t have accomplished these goals without them.

2. Highlight Your Team on Social Media

Sort of like a personalized message but in a digital format, highlighting your team on social media allows each cast and crew member to get more public praise for their work, and gives you dynamic content to post – win-win!

A great way to ensure everyone is included is by spotlighting a different member of your cast and crew each day, whether that’s before opening night, during performances, or after the final curtain call. A celebration of each person’s accomplishments that leads to higher morale and more digital engagement, these spotlights are a no-brainer idea that cost zero money to create.

For digital spotlights, consider:

  • Static photo posts detailing the person’s role in the production and how they’ve improved the show experience
  • A quick video Q&A that addresses the cast and crew’s likes, talents, and overall personality
  • A quick highlight reel of them at work during rehearsals and performances

And remember – no matter how you present your cast and crew on social media, they’ll be excited to be featured, leading to enhanced loyalty and better odds they’ll return for your next show.

3. Present Your Team with Wrap Gifts

If you have the time, money, and bandwidth to do so, providing wrap gifts for your cast and crew shows appreciation and also gives your team members something to remember the experience by – which is truly priceless. By no means do these gifts need to be extravagant or over-the-top, but a keepsake of any kind is an excellent way to commemorate your time as a team and let your crew know you appreciate them.

If you aren’t sure where to start when it comes to getting a wrap gift, consider the following:

  • Did your team create and uphold ‘inside jokes’ while rehearsing? If so, consider gifting everyone something related to said joke.
  • Did your team particularly love your show poster or show program? Frame one of them for each person.
  • Did you have an on-staff photographer who took photos during shows or rehearsals? Gift each cast and crew member a photo of themselves doing their jobs to remember the experience.
  • Are your cast and crew snackers? Give them a small gift basket of their favorite treats!
  • Do your cast and crew enjoy supporting local? Why not contribute to your local economy – and create networking opportunities – by purchasing gift cards to local stores?

By taking some time to brainstorm creative ideas for gifts that won’t break the bank but will showcase your sentimentality, you can knock your wrap present out of the park!

4. Create Custom Apparel or Merchandise

While you have probably already sold show-specific merchandise for your production to your adoring patrons, consider creating and gifting specific merch/apparel just for your cast and crew. If this seems expensive or difficult to do, we promise it isn’t. (Psst – On The Stage offers the ability to create made-to-order pieces with the exact designs you want!)

So, now that you know it’s a possibility with OTS, order said custom apparel or merchandise so your entire team has matching duds. The merch can be themed around your show with a specific designation as ‘cast and crew,’ or you can include every person’s name on the T-shirt to celebrate the great work you made together. Wear them as a group to your wrap party (more on that later), pose for photos on social media, and enjoy the added camaraderie that custom merch can bring!

5. Throw A Wrap Party

Perhaps the best and most fun way to show cast and crew appreciation is by throwing a wrap party for your entire team after your show has closed. And hey, if you’re looking for wrap party ideas, you’ve come to the right place! After all, cast parties are an important opportunity to celebrate your cast and crew – a time to express gratitude, foster loyalty, highlight talent, and bond further with your theatre-brothers-and-sisters-in-arms. For a wrap party, consider:

  • Hosting a themed event where all your cast and crew show up in costume or in their wardrobe from the show
  • Hosting an Oscars-esque wrap party where all your cast and crew members win awards and dress up in their best
  • Using the party as a potential fundraiser for your next production, meaning more than just cast and crew are invited
  • Streaming the performance of your most recent show at your gathering with the encouragement of (positive) commentary
  • Using a best-in-class software to track RSVPs to ensure you’re prepared for every guest (and yes, On The Stage can help with that, too).
